Bestie’s Boy Gives Hair Loss The Red Card

Calum Best, son of footballing legend George Best, has apparently been visiting a hair loss clinic in a bid to save his TV and modelling career.

Calum appears to have never been blessed with his father’s winning locks, so I would imagine that he has been trying different treatments for some time now in attempt to slow down the effects of hair loss.

He may have tried using one of, if not both, the licensed drugs for hair growth, Regaine and Propecia. Sadly, these aren’t guaranteed and do not work for everyone, so perhaps Calum has decided to opt for surgery – the only guaranteed way to restore hair loss permanently.

What’s interesting about this article is the ‘implantation pen’ the journalist mentions regarding his rumoured treatment. She is probably referring to a FUE device. FUE, or Follicular Unit Extraction, is a process whereby individual follicular unit grafts are ‘drilled out’. The process is an alternative to the more common, Ultra-Refined Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) which involves taking a narrow strip of hair roots from a ‘donor’ area at the back or sides of the scalp.

What’s important to keep in mind is that in the right hands, either technique should have excellent results in cases of small hair loss like Calum’s. In the more advanced cases needing large number of grafts, FUT holds the advantage.

Devices like the one mentioned here can facilitate the process but are in no way a replacement for the artistry, skill and experience of the surgeon and his team.
