Dr Nilofer Farjo appointed as the new President of the ISHRS at the hybrid 29th World Congress

Last month, our very own Dr Nilofer Farjo was appointed as the new President (29th) of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) – the leading authority on hair loss treatment and restoration.
The appointment took place at the ISHRS’s hybrid 29th World Congress in Lisbon, Portugal, which ran from Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd October.
Dr Nilofer becomes only the third female President in the 30-year history of the ISHRS, and the first woman from the UK and Europe to take on the prestigious role.
This past year, Dr Nilofer has held the position of Vice President on the 2020-2021 ISHRS Board of Governors, so the assentation President is a very deserved one. It is a testament to her commitment and dedication to the ISHRS, its core values and its mission.
The only other person to hold the title of President of the ISHRS from the UK is Dr Bessam Farjo, Dr Nilofer’s husband and co-founder of The Farjo Hair Institute, who became the 15th President in 2007.

What is the ISHRS?
The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) is a global non-profit medical association and the leading authority on hair loss treatment and restoration.

What is the World Congress event?
The World Congress is the ISHRS’s annual meeting which offers unmatched educational opportunities for hair restoration physicians.
It provides an opportunity for many to reconnect with their colleagues from across the world, participate in the discussion of several hot topics and attend many talks discussing the latest surgical techniques and the most recent advances in biological research on hair follicle regeneration.
Why was this year’s World Congress classed as a ‘hybrid’ event?
The term ‘hybrid’ refers to the fact that the ISHRS held an in-person meeting in Lisbon, Portugal and that an online, on-demand virtual platform will be available in the coming weeks.
All who attend the world congress are encouraged to participate in the sharing of new findings, research, techniques and ideas.
What was included in the event?
The three-day meeting was packed with different activities that covered the entire spectrum of hair restoration surgery.
It consisted of 10 different General Sessions, including a session on COVID-19 and Hair Loss. Several sessions focused on surgical techniques, innovations, careful aesthetics when extracting and placing, and updates on biologics and new treatments.
In-person attendees were also able to participate in four specialised Focus Sessions, a Morbidity & Mortality (M&M) Conference and other social events.
