Beware the poinsettia! Why the jolly festive plant could cause your hair to FALL OUT if you come into contact with its sap
12th December 2019
The popular festive shrubs, traditionally displayed in British homes at Christmas, contain a substance within their sap which can cause hair loss.
Hair transplant surgeon Dr Bessam Farjo is advising people to be mindful if they’ve been in contact with the pretty red plant.
‘People should always wash their hands if they’ve been in contact with one.
‘The sap extracted from the plant has a depilatory (hair removal) effect. If the sap were to make contact with hair on any part of the body, including the scalp, and is then wiped away, it can potentially remove the hair with it.
