On Tuesday, June 29th 2010, Channel 5 News on its 5pm bulletin featured a story about supermodel Naomi Campbell and bald patches on her scalp.
Earlier that day they contacted Dr Bessam Farjo for an expert opinion and sent a team to interview him at the Farjo Hair Institute’s Harley Street premises in London.
Dr Farjo had already been quizzed by the Sun newspaper on the same subject earlier and was of the opinion that Naomi is suffering from traction alopecia. This condition results from mechanical damage to the hair most commonly seen following prolonged tight hairstyles, braiding or even hair extensions. The hair is likely to grow back but in severe and prolonged damage it may not and hair transplant surgery is a possible treatment option.
