Busy Team Farjo at Big Hair Transplant Congress

Early last month in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the year’s biggest hair transplant conference took place. It was the 22nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS). It is the leading organisation in the world for hair restoration science, surgery, medicine and education. It has over 1200 members and conducts annual conferences and workshops throughout the world.
This year, four Farjo representatives attended the congress and all took very active roles and were as busy as ever! The team comprised of surgeons, Dr Bessam Farjo, Dr Nilofer Farjo and Dr Greg Williams as well as Surgery Manager, Sara Roberts RN.
Dr Bessam Farjo is a Past President and Fellow of the ISHRS and current Lead Ambassador for international relations. His activity list at the meeting in Kuala Lumpur included:
- Attending the Board of Governors meeting as a voting member, including reporting to Board on his activities as Ambassador
- Attending the meeting of the Global Council of National & Regional Hair Restoration Societies in his position as ISHRS Ambassador
- Newcomer Host at the ‘Newcomer Orientation & Speed Networking’ Event
- Giving a workshop lecture on ‘My Top 10 Pearls For Best Results in Hair Transplantation’
- Moderating the General Session on the subject of Hair Transplant ‘Recipient Sites’
- Giving a lecture at the above session on ‘The Challenges of Graft Placement’
- Table Leader role on the subject of ‘Case Planning – When To Do FUE vs FUT‘
- Table Leader role on the subject of ‘How To Set-up a Hair Restoration Practice and Marketing’
- Panel Expert on the subject of ‘Challenging Patients’
- Honoured on stage as one of only 10 doctors to have attended every one of the ISHRS 22 Annual Scientific Meetings. The Tenacious Ten!

Dr Nilofer Farjo is also an ISHRS Fellow, and the Immediate Past Co-Editor of Hair Transplant Forum International, the official journal of the ISHRS. Her activities at the meeting were as follows:
- Member of the 2014 Annual Scientific Meeting Committee, and proud to have been selected to be the Program Chair for the 2015 ISHRS Annual Congress in Chicago. A first for the United Kingdom.
- Giving a Lecture at the Advanced/Board Review Course on ‘Hair Biology & Physiology’
- Examiner for the Mock Oral Examinations at the above course
- Giving a General Session Lecture on the subject of ‘Woman Hairline‘
- Expert Panel member on the subject of Hair Transplant ‘Hairline Design‘
- Moderating the Norwood Lecture, featuring guest speaker, Prof Valarie Randall of the University of Bradford
- Panel Expert on the subject of ‘Challenging Patients’
- A faculty member of the ISHRS & ABHRS Morbidity & Mortality conference

Dr Greg Williams is a long-standing active member of the ISHRS, and was delighted to have been granted the status of ‘Fellow’ at this meeting:
- Attended the meeting of the Global Council of National & Regional Hair Restoration Societies in his position of President of the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgery (BAHRS)
- Reported at the above on the significant amount of work the BAHRS has achieved over the past year on the issues of ethics, education and promoting collegiality amongst hair restoration surgeons in the UK
- Table Leader on the subject of ‘Robotic FUE Personal Experience‘

Sara Roberts RN is a long-standing Surgical Assistant member of the ISHRS and has been at Farjo for 18 years. Her roles at the ISHRS conference included:
- Newcomer Host at the ‘Newcomer Orientation & Speed networking’ Event
- Giving a lecture on ‘Staff Training‘ at the Surgical Assistants Program
- Giving a lecture on ‘Use of Graft Implanters’ at the Surgical Assistants Program
- Sara was delighted to be elected to join the ISHRS Surgical Assistants Committee and to be Co-Chair of the Surgical Assistants Program at next year’s ISHRS conference. Both are a first for the UK!
