Hair Transplant Success: Terry Dunnage’s Inspiring Story After Burn Injury

We were privileged to support the remarkable Terry Dunnage in episode 1 of the series. Terry is a burn survivor, having endured devastating injuries when his schizophrenic uncle set him on fire in a horrific incident that left 46% of his body severely burned. His courage and resilience over the years have been nothing short of extraordinary. You can read more about Terry’s powerful story here

Terry’s recovery journey has involved countless medical procedures to restore both physical function and his sense of identity. He felt that the lasting damage to his eyebrows and hairline continued to affect his self-esteem. That’s what brought him to the Love My Face clinic, where he met with Dr Bessam Farjo to take the next step in his journey.

How Eyebrow and Hairline Transplants Can Restore Identity After Facial Burns

Eyebrows are often underestimated, but they play a vital role in how we communicate and how we feel about our appearance. For someone like Terry, whose eyebrows were lost as a result of severe burns, their absence has a profound impact on facial expression and overall confidence.

Hair, too, is deeply tied to identity. Terry underwent a hair transplant with us to restore his hairline, which had also been affected by his injuries. The restoration of his hairline was a key step in rebuilding his overall look and sense of self.

At the Farjo Hair Institute, we specialise in technically demanding procedures like eyebrow transplants and hairline restoration. In Terry’s case, the surgery was expertly performed by our Surgeon Dr Greg Williams. Using carefully selected donor hairs for the eyebrow transplant procedure (260 hair follicles were used per eyebrow), the new eyebrows were created to look natural and symmetrical, while complementing Terry’s facial features. Meanwhile, a Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) hair transplant was carried out on his hairline to restore fullness and achieve a more natural, even appearance – a total of 4134 follicles were used. This involved implanting donor follicles to rebuild density and redefine the front of his hairline.

Psychological Support and Compassionate Care for Hair Transplant Patients

We know from over 30 years’ experience that hair loss and disfigurement are not just physical issues – they carry deep emotional weight. That’s why psychological support is a core part of our practice. Terry received ongoing counselling from our Co-Founder, Dr Bessam Farjo, who helped him prepare emotionally for the procedure and the changes to come.

We are committed to treating hair loss as the medical condition it is, rather than a purely cosmetic concern. By addressing the emotional and psychological dimensions of treatment, we ensure our patients receive holistic care that respects their journey.

The Importance of Hair Loss & It’s Impact

Being part of Love My Face was more than a media opportunity for us – it was a chance to be involved in something truly meaningful. The series shined a spotlight on people living with visible differences and the real stories behind their medical journeys. Terry’s episode was a moving experience for all of us. Watching him see his new hair line and eyebrows for the first time was a powerful moment. It reaffirmed why we do what we do every day – improving people’s confidence through the science and art of hair restoration.
