Time For A False Lash Back-Lash!

September 3, 2010 – 4:26 pm by Dr Bessam Farjo

A growing number of my patients are young women looking to reverse the damage caused by false eyelashes and eyelash extensions. The products seem to have become increasingly popular, partly due to celebrity fans like Cheryl Cole and Katie Price.

What a lot of women don’t realise is that damage is caused when the glue used to place the false eyelashes creates tension, and in many cases pulls out the natural eyelash as they are removed.

As with any hair follicle, eyelashes will cease to grow if they are repeatedly plucked out at the root – hence my increasing number of concerned visitors!

I realise this will come as a shock to the thousands of women who invest heavily in these beauty ‘must -haves’; however I do feel a responsibility to warn them of the potential side-effects.

Having to resort to hair transplant surgery may seem far-fetched but the problem is very real and becoming more and more frequent. If women are determined to wear false eyelashes, I would advise using them in moderation… and caution when taking them off!
